Application of fiber ball filter in oilfield wastewater treatment

Introduction:

There is substandard quality problem in oilfield oily sewage treatment work. There are many factors that can contribute to this situation, and one of the most important factor is the water filter. Water filter is a last resort to remove suspended solids, oil removal, and it can intercept and adsorb suspended particles, oil and algae contained in sewage to meet the corresponding standards. And the application of fiber ball filter can effectively improve the treatment effect.

Characteristic analysis of fiber ball filter:

1) The wire diameter is smaller, the surface area of each gram can reach up to 2000 square meters, and its effective stack can ensure that the porosity is higher than 80%. Compared with the traditional filter media, fiber ball’s interception effect is better.

2) Fiber ball filter has the characteristics of hydrophilicity, oil free, etc.; after water, a large number of water molecules will gather on the surface of the filament, and a layer of water film is formed on the surface, which plays a good isolation layer in the middle of the oil and fiber ball.  

3) Backwashing can clean the oil stains on the surface of the fiber ball, which has renewable performance.

Working principle of fiber ball filter:

Solid suspended matter will accumulate on the surface of the fiber ball, through the process of bridging, filtering and so on to form filter cake, which will improve the precision of filtration; at the same time, the pore of the filter media will also be reduced, which will increase the resistance of filtration.  

When the resistance increases to a certain extent, the bridging relationship will be impacted by subsequent suspended particles and then destroyed. The new larger suspended particles will replace the broken bridging relationship and continue to filter the suspended solids in oily sewage.

Comparison of fiber ball filter and other filters:

Walnut shell filtration material filter: strong adsorption capacity, high hardness, wear resistance, large flow, but the removal of solid suspended solids in oily sewage effect is poor.

Double layer filtration material filter: the ability to absorb pollution is strong, the operation is simple, easy to operate and manage, it is more suitable in the deep sewage treatment.

Quartz sand filter: it is the most widely used equipment in the oil field water treatment system at present; simple structure, easy to maintain, and easy to operate; it has a better sewage treatment effect.

Conclusion:

As a new type of oilfield sewage fine filtration equipment, fiber ball filter's advantages are obvious: hydrophilic, oil repellent, large surface area, high void ratio, good regeneration performance, etc.; it has more obvious advantage in the low permeability reservoir sewage treatment work, can realize high precision filtration, and plays an important role in improving the sustainability of oilfield development.
